What is the Accreditation Process?

Application
  • Request application from NAFCC.
  • Become a NAFCC member ($25 annual fee).
  • Return application and pay first installment of accreditation fee ($247.50).
Self-Study
  • Receive study materials including the quality standards.
  • Use the accreditation quality standards to evaluate your program.
  • Design your own professional development plan.
  • Join a support group, if possible.
  • Work with parents to support and enhance the quality of your program.
  • Make quality improvements.
Observation
  • Request observer visit and mail in final payment ($247.50).
  • Complete file of required documents.
  • Complete self-observation tool.
  • Distribute parent surveys.
  • Observer conducts visit and interview.
Accreditation Decision
  • Accreditation Commission reviews observation tools.
  • Commission grants or defers accreditation.
  • Accreditation is granted for 3 years.
  • Deferred programs must make necessary improvements and request second observation visit.
